PINUPS OF AUSTRALIA
“A community of Pinups for Pinups, creating pageants that pay it forward,” is how Bettie Butcher introduces the Pinups of Australia community, or PoA.
“Pinups of Australia are a leader in national pageants and events that are never for profit. PoA was founded in 2018 after the demand for events surpassed the capacity of our Queensland team. We have expanded with members in each state who help coordinate local pageants and events around the country to help pinups make new friends, build their confidence and to be their best selves. PoA’s main focus is to support a diverse and inclusive community to connect and showcase Australian pinup, while raising awareness and funds for worthy charities.”
Australia’s ‘Hostess with the mostest’, Bettie has been a proponent of the Kustom Kulture community since 2008 – building confidence, helping girls make lifelong friends and raising awareness for charities. After experiencing bullying herself, Bettie became an anti-bullying advocate to raise awareness and funds for charities such as Dolly’s Dream who work hard to stop bullying and cyberbullying in schools. PoA’s 2020 #vintagevibesnotvintagevalues campaign saw the group collaborate with other artists to create a range of pins, decals and shirts in support of DVConnect, who provide pathways to safety away from domestic, family and sexual violence.
“Because pinups love the vintage look, not the values of that era,” confirms Bettie.
The first quarter of 2021 will see the team support Animal Welfare League Qld with fresh designs collaborating with new artists.
